Accommodation in the students residences of the
Studentenwerk Bielefeld

The Studentenwerk Bielefeld offers close to 2000 placements in 11 halls of residence in Bielefeld and in Minden. On offer are various options, from single bedrooms and flats to shared flats in different sizes and special family flats. The two oldest halls of residence date back to 1973, whereas the most recent dates to 1994. The Bielefeld halls of residence at "Morgenbreede" and "Universitätsstrasse" directly border the campus. Not even a bicycle is necessary to get to university! The city centre is approx. 3-4 km away..
The halls of residence at "Werther Strasse" and "Jakob Kaiser Strasse" are approx. 1 km away from the main university building; "Stenner Strasse" and "Freiburger Strasse" residences are approx. 2-3 km away, and the "August-Bebel-Strasse/ Markgrafenstrasse" residences are located in the city centre, approx. 4 km away from campus. The hall of residence located in Minden at the "Schenkendorffstrasse 129" is approx. 3 km away from the FH (Fachhochschule) in the "Artilleriestrasse"

In order to simplify the use of the Internet in the halls of residence, the Studentenwerk has installed its own high speed optical fibre network for the large halls of residence situated on the university campus and for the halls of residence situated in the Jakob-Kaiser-Straße and Stenner Straße. The possibility of using the telephone, radio and television is also integrated.

Unfortunately the number of available places in the residences is not equal to demand, so students should expect to wait at least 1-2 semesters before a room becomes available. The Studentenwerk also offers help in searching for rooms within the private sector; offers for private accommodation can be found on noticeboards in the accommodation office or on this website under "Zimmerangebote".
